Microphone Troubleshooting
If you're experiencing issues with your microphone while using Briggs, follow these steps to resolve them. Keep in mind that Briggs only transcribes what it hears through your microphone and cannot transcribe or summarize audio coming from headphones. If you want it to listen to conversations from your computer, make sure it’s playing through your speakers, not your headphones.
1. Troubleshooting Microphone Access
Problem: "Enable System Mic Permissions" Message
If you see "Enable System Mic Permissions" at the bottom of the note panel, Briggs is unable to access your microphone. This typically happens due to permission settings on your computer.
Solution:
- For Windows:
- Open Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
- Make sure "Allow apps to access your microphone" is enabled.
- Restart Briggs and check if the issue is resolved.
- For Mac:
- Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Microphone.
- Ensure that Briggs has permission to access the microphone.
- Restart Briggs after adjusting the settings.
Once permissions are granted, the message should disappear, and your microphone should work properly.
2. Microphone Not Connecting
Problem: Microphone Button Says "Start Listening" and Doesn't Respond
If you see the "Start Listening" text next to the microphone icon at the bottom of the note panel, it means Briggs should have access to your microphone. However, if clicking the mic button doesn't activate it and the button just says "Start Listening" again, the microphone didn't connect properly.
Solution:
- Click the up arrow next to the microphone icon (on the left side).
- A list of available microphones will appear.
- Note: If you’re on Windows, you may see multiple microphone options. Look for "Microphone Array (2 - Realtek Hi)" or something similar. This is a common option that should work. If you see it, select it and try again.
- Select a different microphone from the list to see if that resolves the issue.
This step should help Briggs connect to the right microphone.
3. Common Audio Setup Issues
Problem: Briggs Not Recording Audio from Headphones
Briggs only records audio picked up by your microphone, not audio from headphones or speakers. If you’re using headphones and expecting Briggs to transcribe or summarize the sound, please note that this won’t work.
Solution:
- Ensure you're using a microphone (built-in or external) to record audio.
- Make sure the correct microphone is selected in your system's sound settings.
If you're listening to audio through headphones and want Briggs to transcribe or summarize it, this will not work. Briggs will only transcribe audio picked up by the microphone.
